Freedom bed is an automated, computer-controlled, therapy system that treats patients with pressure ulcers. The bed rotates the user's body side by side and elevates the head and legs with a built-in air powered mattress.
The aim of this project was to develop a new aesthetic direction for Pro Bed Medical Technologies, complementing the current user market of home care and residential spaces. The redesign also incorporates strong consideration for use in a hospital environment.
We worked closely with the founder of Pro Bed and occupational therapists at VGH and George Pearson Center to develop improvements for the redesign. The final prototype presented includes two end boards made from bent plywood and ABS plastic, a redesigned touch-screen interface, and two side rails with a built-in locking/opening mechanism.
